Polyester operating rates are slightly higher than last week / Futures prices rise

The price of monoethylene glycol in Asia increased in the week ending May 31. Higher crude prices supported trade in the first part of the week. MEG demand was also supported by slightly higher polyester run rates. In China, the estimated rate of MEG production as of May 30 was 88.3% compared to 87.9% for the week ending May 24. The run rate of polyester is usually reduced around this time as the peak season begins in June. Therefore, the slightly higher operating rates also boosted sentiment, as was evident from the high futures price this week, said a China-based broker.
