US polycarbonate prices inch up as feedstock cost rise / Upstream BPA cost rises $100/mt in a week / Soft buyer interest persists

US polycarbonate price rose during the week in response to rising production costs upstream. Polymerscan August 14 2024 extrusion and injection grade polycarbonate, at 93 and 99 cents/lb respectively, both stable for the day but 4 cents more on the week due to rising feedstock prices. BPA prices upstream rose $100 in a week, to $1,688/mt CIF US East Coast. According to sources, increased buyer interest in conjunction with freight delays and restocking contributed to the pricing pressure. This assessment took into account information that US polycarbonate was priced at a $200 to $250/mt premium over China CFR. The price of extrusion grade and general-purpose Chinese polycarbonate remained stable during the session at $1.820/mt each.
