In the week to March 17, the European
propylene market was dominated by sluggish fundamentals. This despite market participants
noting that easing energy costs and higher costs in the American market have
contributed to some improvement in the outlook. Despite this, there was some transactional
activity throughout the week. Deals were completed at a 13.5% discount on FD NWE
PGP and a 30% and 36.5% discount on FD NWE CGP respectively. increasing
margins for derivatives is possible as energy prices are falling. A positive
side effect of rising Rhine water levels was also noted. This allowed for
easier sourcing vessels and feedstock transport.
