Naphtha Backwardation Slope / ARA stock prices fall 4.2% last week

The backwardation on the European naphtha markets increased further in April. The crack spread shrank, while the East-West gap fell to lower levels. The demand for naphtha was strong, both in the gasoline blending pool as well as petrochemicals. The spread between naphtha and gasoline increased slightly but remained around $230s/mt. This supports the strong demand for naphtha to blend with gasoline. The petrochemical market was also tightened by the lower supply of petrochemical products. The steepening of the naphtha backwardation structure has led to increased destocking by market participants in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub. Insights Global reported that ARA stock levels fell by 4.2% during the week ending April 25, reaching 547,000 mt.
