West African polyethylene prices fell in the week ending September 4 due to weak demand and competition from importers. CFR West Africa High Density Polyethylene Film Grade Spot Prices at $1,145/mt is down $25 from the previous week. HDPE prices in West Africa fell due to competition from importers of different origins. The US and Middle East offered low-cost material. LDPE was still scarce, but prices remained stable. Demand was slow, hampered by the volatility of the Nigerian naira as well as the monsoon. According to market sources, US dollar shortages continue to be a problem for trade in the area.
