US HDPE Spot export film price softens on thin activity / Weekly blowmolding, injection-grade HDPE prices remain stable / Offers for September spot Resin expected by the end of August 30

On an FAS Houston basis, US high density polyethylene fell for one grade on August 28 but remained steady for others amid persistently weak fundamentals. The week ended August 28 was a slow one for transactions as the demand at multiple global export outlets remained sluggish. US exporters are turning to Europe or Africa as a result of the low prices for domestic resins in Asia. Market feedback suggests that Middle Eastern suppliers offer aggressive pricing to Africa, while European markets are slow due to the summer holidays. Sources say that a lot of US PE remains in the Americas. However, South America is only able to take so much resin. On August 26-27, film-grade HDPE railcars were discussed in the 42-44 cents/lb price range. Repeatability was observed at 43-44...
