Spot and contract PET prices remain flat this week / May PTA contracts settled 1.01 cents/lb lower

US polyethylene spot price remained unchanged during the week ending June 5 due to unchanged market fundamentals. There was also little market activity. Market sources claim that trade activity was low due to uncertainty over freight rates. A West Coast buyer stated, "I haven’t heard of any changes in VPET pellets." "Market seems quiet." Since the beginning of May, high ocean freight rates are affecting spot PET import prices. Data shows that US spot PET prices are up 7.5% since May 8. Asian sources have noted that the recent sharp increase in freight rates has led to more difficult trade negotiations, as neither buyers or sellers are willing to pay the full cost of the additional freight.
