The Chinese polyethylene industry softened during the week of Jan. 22, as the demand for the product continued to decline ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. HDPE film CFR Fareast Asia is down $5/mt from the previous week to $875/mt. LLDPE films were down $5/mt over the past week to $930/mt, while LDPE films also fell $5/mt to $1120/mt. A trader said that there are few new CFR offers on the market as the majority of market participants have already started preparing for holidays. The shutdown of downstream factories began well in advance of the holiday break, which runs from January 28 to February 3.
