Butyric acid prices rise in North America, Europe amid high costs

Prices of butyric acid soared in North America and Europe at the beginning of March 2025 due to rising production costs. Demand remained low as the food and flavoring, animal feed sectors struggled with recovery. Butyric Acid rose 1.4% in price in the United States in the first half March. This was primarily due to an increase of 5% in the feedstock Propylene. The producers passed on higher costs to downstream purchasers, despite difficult export conditions for key markets such as Canada and Mexico. Domestic demand also showed signs of stress, as the U.S. corn output for 2024/25 is forecast to fall by 1.8 millions tons to 1.492 million tons, resulting in lower animal feed production. Consumer sentiment declined, as the consumer confidence index fell by seven points in February...
