Asia PE : Prices in Southeast Asia are falling; China is stable / Sluggish demand across SE Asia / Sinopec and INEOS close PE plants in Tianjin - Dec 02, 2024

Southeast Asian polyethylene prices dipped in the week ending Nov. 27, as buyers took a wait-and see attitude. HDPE film fell $10/mt in the past week to $950/mt, CFR Southeast Asia. LLDPE film also dropped $10/mt for the same period at $970/mt, CFR Southeast Asia on Nov. 27. HDPE was affected by the lower prices of US-sourced material due to its competitive pricing. LDPE trade was scarce and sources reported that it was difficult to move cargoes due to the weak demand. Prices fell $20/mt from the previous week to $1,160/mt at CFR Southeast Asia on Nov. 27. Sources said that the strong dollar affected imports of all grades. End-users preferred to purchase cargoes through local traders because they could buy smaller quantities and at lower prices.
