Market sources reported that the South Asian polyethylene markets fell during the week ending Oct. 23, as imports continued to be low amid high inventories and low prices from local producers. The market sources attribute the weakness to Diwali, as many traders have expressed a desire to liquidate their inventory. All other grades fell in value, while the LDPE general-purpose grade remained unchanged on both a day to day basis and a week to week basis. The participants were confident that after the Diwali holiday, Middle East offers would be firmer as the demand would stabilise. However, some did not agree.
