Market activity will pick up when participants return after their holiday period / BPCL, India offers 27,000 mt naphtha for loading May 18-19 / ICE front-month CFR Japan Naphtha swap interest drops 9% in April

Sources said that the Asian naphtha markets weakened in the morning Asian trade on May 6, due to the thin margins in downstream petrochemicals. However, activities are expected to increase from May 6-10, as participants return after the Labor Day holiday in China and Children's Day celebrations in Japan and South Korea. Brokers lowered the time spread for the swap of June-July mean Japan naphtha to $9.75/mt at midmorning Asian trading May 6. This was down by 50 cents/mt compared to the previous session. The poor olefin margins were reflected in the CFR Northeast Asia Ethylene price spread to C+F Japan Naphtha May 3 at $189.13/mt, down $1.25/mt from the previous week.
