Asian LLDPE Market Trends Up amid Concerns Over Rising Freight Costs / China's Wanhua Petrochemical will shut down Yantai LLDPE in July / India LLDPE Prices Increase on Higher Discussions

In the week ending May 29, the Southeast Asia market for low density polyethylene showed a positive trend as buyers purchased more cargoes to prepare for rising freight costs. Although overall demand was largely flat, the supply of polyethylene in Southeast Asia tightened due to ongoing maintenance at the plants. A trader said that, "Overall demand has been weak. However, because freight costs will not be coming down any time soon there is more purchasing activity during these two weeks in order to meet end-user's needs." One producer said that freight costs between South Korea and Vietnam had almost doubled since last month. A 50-foot container now costs $1,000.
