Asian pet market softens due to lower feedstock prices; buyers hold off purchases / Producers reduce offers as PTA and MEG prices drop Post / holiday restocking is below expectations

In Asia, the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) market weakened in the week ending February 26 due to lower feedstock costs upstream. Bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia was $800/mt in February, down $5/mt from the previous week. PET FOB Southeast Asia dropped $25/mt and reached $880/mt during that same time period. According to sources on the market, most Chinese producers reduced their offer levels due to pressure from falling prices for monoethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acids. PTA CFR China dropped $18/mt from the previous week to $655/mt, while MEG CFR China declined $9/mt in the same time period.
