Asian LLDPE market trends upwards on rising freight costs / LLDPE unit at China's Wanhua Petrochemical closed for maintenance / India LLDPE price rises - Jul 05, 2024

In the week leading up to the 3rd of July, the Asian market for linear low density polyethylene trended up due to rising ocean freight costs and a bullish Chinese economy. Southeast Asian LLDPE films were up $10/mt from week to week, at $1030/mt by July 3, while CFR China was up $5/mt at $975/mt. LLDPE prices have also been supported by the persistently high LDPE films prices. Due to the disparity in price between LLDPE and LDPE, end users have been heard to switch to more LLDPE films. This has contributed to a slight increase in demand. Sources said that, for instance, LDPE film grades in Southeast Asia are being offered at $1300/mt, compared to LLDPE films priced between $1,040-$1,080/mt.
