Asian PET prices rise amid pressure on upstream costs / Producers maintain their offers despite the sluggish market/ China's demand for polyester is expected to increase by the end of February

The price of Asian polyethylene (PET), which is a derivative of polyethylene, rose during the week ending February 12, mainly due to higher feedstock costs. Bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia is $805/mt. This represents a $15/mt increase week over week. FOB Southeast Asian PET prices also increased $20/mt, to $905/mt during the same time period. Market sources reported that despite low demand, Chinese producers increased their offer levels amid rising prices for monoethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acids (PTA). In the Southeast Asian seaborne markets, a similar trend was seen where producers sought to close deals at higher levels of offer and were firm with pricing.
