In the week ending March 12, the Asian polyethylene market was quiet. Few trades were heard, as most buyers had sufficient coverage for the short term. The Chinese import cargo market remains weak due to the uncertain recovery of end-product demand. Sources said that uncertainty surrounding US tariffs contributed to the lack market confidence. Most participants maintained a wait and see attitude. HDPE and LLDPE discussions in China's domestic markets recovered, but overall trades were sluggish because downstream converter operating rates remained around 50%. LDPE sales declined despite stable discussions, as buyers stopped restocking because of sufficient inventories. Trading was subdued in Southeast Asia due to the Ramadan holiday.
