Asian PTA pessimism increases ahead of the new year / High inventories / Outlook for the new year is bearish

Purified Terephthalic Acid producers in Asia remained bearish as we approached the New Year. Demand remained sluggish and margins were under increasing pressure. PTA FOB china was $647/mt at the beginning of November, up $12/mt for that day. Sources said that PTA producers will face a difficult task in 2024 as the downstream demand in China remains dormant. This, in turn, hurts their margins. PTA inventories continued to grow in China, which hurt margins, according to a producer from Asia. Purified terephthalic acids inventories in China reached 2.71 million mt during the week ending October 25, down from 2.75 million in the previous weeks, according to a Chinese trader.
