Asian Ethylene - Cautious mood in upstream falls / Weaker derivative futures markets cap buying / Idemitsu and Mitsui merge steam cracker operations

The Asian ethylene market slowed down on Oct. 9, as several participants pulled back due to volatile upstream price fluctuations. The crude oil and naphtha market declines added to the cautious atmosphere, and few bids or offers were heard on October 9. The declines in derivative futures markets have also added to the negative mood. Some buyers said that there was no incentive to make spot purchases due to the uncertain market direction. The companies announced in a joint press release on October 9 that they had completed the feasibility study for the merger of their naphtha steam cracker operations at Chiba, and were now moving to the next stage in front-end engineering. The two companies plan to merge their operations during the fiscal year of 2027-28. (April to march)....
