Asian Benzene Prices Fall as Upstream and Downstream Markets Retreat / Taiwan faces increasing competition from China on benzene-derived products / Thin discussion in Taiwan market

Asian benzene dropped $1.34/mt to $980.33/mt for the fifth straight session on Sept. 6. Brent futures for the first month were range-bound and rose 3 cents/b during the session, to $73.27/b by the close of Asian trading. The C+F Japan Naphtha Marker at $639.25/mt is down $6.75/mt from the previous session. The downstream styrene was priced $1/mt less than the previous session, at $1107/mt CFR China. The premium for FOB Korea floating prices was high, in the range of $20s/mt, compared to the October weekly mean of Korea base price. Market participants in Taiwan reported that discussions on spot cargoes were limited after CPC's last buy tender for October concluded at $42.50/mt compared to the October wMOPK.
