Asia PE: Chinese market trends upward after Golden Week; SE Asia trading quiet / China prices increase on the backs of strong futures prices / Trading quiet in SE Asia - Oct 11, 2024

The Chinese polyethylene industry strengthened during the week ending Oct. 9, as trading activity increased following the Golden Week holiday. HDPE film for Far East Asia was up $10/mt to $920/mt. LLDPE films were up $15/mt to $950/mt. LDPE films CFR Far East Asia were up $10/mt to $1120/mt. The Chinese government announced several economic stimulus measures to boost its struggling economy prior to the holiday period, which ran from October 1-7. In response, CFR and domestic prices increased on the backs of rising futures and an improved market sentiment on the morning of October 8. Sources said that futures prices had since dropped and stabilised.
