Shortage persists in South China, despite improvement in the northeastern China / Inquiries from Thailand heard amid tight market conditions

On Dec. 10, Asian acrylonitrile rose by $10/mt in a week, to $1,235/mt for Far East Asia, and $1,240/mt for Southeast Asia, amid tightened market conditions following an unplanned closure of a South China production facility. "A South China production facility was unexpectedly shut down, causing a shortage of supplies." A distributor stated that supplies from Northeastern China were redirected southwards to meet the demand. On Dec. 10, it was reported that the prices in China had increased by a small amount week-on-week to Yuan 9,700-10,001/mt. The supply shortage will improve by the end of December or early January. According to a source on the market, Chinese producers have agreed to negotiate with buyers about January exports.
