Brazil Recycled PET prices rise amid shortage / Market participants concerned about low bale availability / Recyclers operating on very tight margins / Green-colored material equal to clear material

The prices of recycled polyethylene Terephthalate in Brazil increased during the week ending August 14, due to the tight supply of feedstock. The increased competition to buy post-consumer PET bottle bales has pushed prices higher, according to several market participants. In the near future we will probably no longer be discussing bale prices, but rather whether sellers can deliver the material," said a recycler. A distributor also echoed this sentiment about rising prices and a lack of supply. He said, "Prices have increased significantly in the last few months. We have begun to increase our stocks to wait for higher prices."
