No offers, bids or trades on Day / USGC purity of MTBE not acceptable for European Market

The price of MTBE in the US increased by 1.25 cents/gal or 3.43 cents/gal on the 20th May, following the NYMEX RBOB. Market participants withdrew from the market when no offers, bids or trades were registered during the Market on Close process. The MTBE differential was assessed to be stable at the June RBOB plus 18,05 cents/gal. Sources in Europe said that while US players were interested in exporting MTBE to Europe, quality concerns have hampered US exports. US producers are facing competition from Asia which is able to consistently meet the 97% purity requirements in Europe.
