USGC MEG Weekly- Alpek closes down downstream PET plant- Weak MEG Demand globallyParticipants in the US MEG market cited the
evaporating demand for the reason of price drops the week of March 17. "Demand for PET is
terrible." A market participant
stated that the demand is weak around the globe. The March 22nd, 2023 US MEG price of Polymerscan was
slightly higher than December 2022 but it is difficult to predict the future
economic outlook. Alpek also announced
that it would shut down its South Carolina polyethylene terephthalate plant for
an indefinite time. During their February
quarterly earnings call, Alpek acknowledged that PET margins had declined
towards the end 2022. Sources said that
