In the week ending April 26, trading on the European ethylene market remained muted amid persistently weak demand from derivatives markets. A number of producers reported that they did not see any spot trading during the week. This trend was observed throughout April. The three-to-30-day free-delivered Northwest European spot price was Eur800.50/mt, up Eur1.50/mt for the day and Eur8.50/mt for the week. Lack of interest in the spot market continued to put significant pressure on it. A producer was heard to be rerouting ships to Asia. Even if spot discounts were further reduced from the monthly contract price, a trader stated that offers would not be taken because demand was so low.
