Weak consumption and lower downstream run
rates continued to slow demand on the Asian benzene markets May 24. The market was quiet, with
the FOB Korea benzene marker dropping $2.66/mt from day to day. It now stands
at $846.67/mt. On the floating basis
market, July FOB Korea was offered at minus 2 mt to June's weekly Mean of Korea
benzene, indicating weakness. A source in
Southeast Asia said that spot cargoes are being discussed at negative levels. PetroChina, the state-owned Chinese refinery, plans to
restart operations on its 750,000 mt/year Paraxylene Plant and
340,000mt/yearBenzene Plant at Liaoyang Petrochemical by May 28 after
