No new buying interest was heard on the
European benzene or styrene market on May 30. Only offers were heard on
May 30 for both markets. Bid activity was minimal. The benzene offers were higher than those at the end last
week, but there was no new trading activity the day before contract settlement
negotiations in June. Benzene's price was
down $5.25/mt from May 26 to $951/mt CIF ARA on May 30, based on a backwardated
structure that had been in place since May and continued into June. Styrene prices for June fell, however, due to a weakening
