Brazil PE market falls due to weak demand and lower offer levels / Import duty to increase, purchases put on hold / Participants anticipate lower prices in September

In the week ending August 28, the prices of polyethylene imported into Brazil for most grades fell. This was due to lower offer levels and expectations that prices would be reduced in September by the US Gulf Coast. Also, purchases were put on hold because of the anticipated increase in import duty. High density polyethylene films fell by $50/mt. Low density polyethylene, linear, fell by $30/mt. HDPE injections fell $10/mt. HDPE blowmolding is the only grade that was flat over the past week, despite the tight supply reported by the USGC. Blowmolding offers were higher than other grades, reaching as high as $1,230/mt. US-based traders shared that PE prices were $40/mt on average lower than last week.
