In the week leading up to January 15, the Chinese polyethylene market was soft to stable as the demand began to drop ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. HDPE film CFR Fareast Asia was down $5/mt from the previous week to $880/mt, while LLDPE films were also down $5/mt to $935/mt. A trader said that "trading has decreased as the holidays approach and many downstream factories are already closing for the holidays." According to sources, it is difficult to close dollar-denominated deals as end users have sufficient inventory and do not wish to buy more cargoes before the holidays.
