Fundamentals are bullish in Southeast Asia after an unexpected plant shutdown in Malaysia. After Malaysian methanol manufacturer, Petronas Chemicals Marketing's (Labuan) 1.7 million mt/year no. The unit 2 was shut down on May 4 due to technical problems. The plant is expected to be repaired in three weeks. Market sources reported that a number of end users and sellers were heard to source for spot cargoes. Bids ranged from $355-$370/mt CIF Southeast Asia. Southeast Asian methanol, which had risen $14.75/mt from week-to-week to $358.75/mt on May 3, has slowed down and ended the week at $363.75/mt.
