Asian Paraxylene: Prices soar amid stronger crude / Indonesian Polyester Demand Looks Bright / OPTC will resume PTA after turning

The price of Asian paraxylene rose Oct. 4 amid an increase in crude oil, with traders looking forward to the trade activity which will begin next week following Chinese holidays. Asian paraxylene was up $19/mt for the day, at $923/mt F.R. Taiwan/China on Oct. 4. A PTA manufacturer in Indonesia said that the polyester demand on the Indonesian market is healthy and expected to increase. According to the producer, the polyester downstream market provides several jobs both directly and indirectly. Recent imports from China, however, have hurt Indonesian producers who are struggling with competition. Producer said that certain government barriers could help protect domestic producers from cheaper imported products and make them more competive instead.
