Asian Paraxylene: Prices slump as crude support slackens / Domestic flows capped but supplies a worry / Floating spreads in deep discounts

Prices for Asian Paraxylene prices reversed recent gains Aug. 28 as crude oil prices dipped and oversupply fears were back in focus. Asian paraxylene down $16.50/mt on the day at $929.50/mt CFR Taiwan/China Aug. 28. PX spot prices weakened on the day in line with crude while focus is back on excess supplies in Asia, especially in China, sources said. One PX producer in the region stated that China's domestic supply is slightly better due to some turnarounds. The excess supply is mainly for dollar-denominated cargoes but supplies for domestic China cargoes are somewhat capped, the producer said. This has helped cap some domestic supply though US dollar-priced cargoes continue to flow to China while sustaining downward pressure on spot prices, the same producer said.
