Asian Paraxylene: Prices drop as crude falls again / Crude oil prices remain the main driver of crude Spread of PX / naphtha back to below $200/mt

The Asian paraxylene price fell day-on-day, as crude oil prices continued to pressure PX margins. Asian PX is down $8/mt per day, to $850/mt CFR Taiwan/China on October 25. The traders noted that daily price changes in PX are largely dictated by crude oil fluctuations, while sources report limited clues regarding demand and supply. The PX margins are still below $200/mt. The margins briefly improved in early October as PX prices soared. On Oct. 1, the PX/naphtha differential reached $245.38/mt, up from the record low of $168.67/mt set on Sept. 18. A trader from Singapore stated that this rally was only short-lived.
