Asian Paraxylene Prices Crash to Lowest in 2024 / Downstream activity begins to slow / Fuhaichuang to restart PX line

Prices for Asian paraxylene fell to their lowest level in 2024 as the demand was weak and downstream activity in China began to slow. Asian paraxylene fell $11.34/mt in one day to $802.33/mt, the lowest price of the year. Commodity Insights' data shows that PX prices fell sharply, despite the minimal changes in oil prices. A Chinese trader stated that the decline in PX prices was due to a start in a downturn in polyester downstream activity in China. The source stated that "on the one hand the Chinese stock exchange is weak, [while] on the other hand downstream operating rates [went] downward."
