Asian Paraxylene: Increases $9.67/mt due to strong macroeconomic indicators / Futures market strengthens / Chemical Freight Activity Remains Weak

The global macroeconomic indicators were strong on Oct. 18. On Oct. 18, Asian PX was up $9.67/mt from day to day, at $848/mt CFT Taiwan/China. This reversed the trend of declining prices. The Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE) reported that futures prices also rose, with the TA2501 contract settling Yuan80/mt higher than the previous day. A trader stated that the price rise was driven more by macroeconomic sentiment than a stronger domestic demand. The trader stated that "downstream polyester load [operation rate] is high but there are no sales and production, and finished products inventory is increasing." A shipbroker from Singapore also said that the chemical freight market continued to be a very quiet market. Freight values were "flat" for most routes.
