In the European market, spot prices for
polystyrene fell in the week ending April 19, as the demand level remained
seasonal. Import
offers were in the range Eur1,350-1,400/mt CIF ARA, from various origins.
However, imported polystyrene only made up a small portion of European
consumption. The lack of demand was also
evident on the contract market. One producer
stated that the lack of demand in the contract market has affected
negotiations. This week, the packaging
market was reported to be lessening. A
trader from Southern Europe reported that appliance demand was steady. It was because consumers in Italy were made aware of the
insulation incentives. Total Energies, a
French polystyrene producer, declared force majeure for its European
deliveries. However, the market was weak...
