The Asian glycol market saw prices fall in the week ended April 26 due to a combination of weak downstream prices and a sluggish consumer demand. "Operating rate at MEG factories in China is basically the same from week to week. So there isn't much change in supply. But as polyester prices dropped this week, MEG buying sentiment also weakened. Brokers in China reported that orders were lower this week than last week. The operating rates for polyester and textiles were respectively estimated at 93% & 79% in the past week. However, sluggish MEG sales led to concerns about growing inventories. In the Chinese domestic market, MEG spot trading was mostly done on a need-to-know basis.
