Asian polystyrene was assessed
stable-to-down-$10/mt in the week to March 1. General purpose polystyrene was
assessed stable at $1,260/mt CFR China and $1,275/mt CFR Southeast Asia. Demand
was heard stable on the week, with market participants noting a slow demand
recovery. High impact polystyrene (HIPS) was assessed slightly weaker, down
$10/mt on the week at $1,345/mt CFR Southeast Asia and $1,330/mt CFR China.
Higher input costs for HIPS in the past few weeks have continued to pressure
margins. "Our costs are still high. SM [styrene monmer] is still at higher levels, and
[butadiene] go higher each week. Producers are finding it difficult to
lower the price.
