US Gulf Coast spot Methanol remained steady
in a slow-moving market on May 23. For
May and June, spot methanol offers were reduced to 86 cents/gallon and 84
cents/gallon. No bids or trading were
heard. Prices are at their lowest since
April 14, after falling almost 9% over the past two weeks. A source stated that it was "disconcerting" to see
prices continuing to fall. Methanol-to
olefins is a major outlet for methanol, and outages have contributed to a
weakening of global demand. Sailboat
Petrochemical, a Chinese company, shut down its MTO plant at Lianyungang on
Dec. 5, due to technical problems. The MTO
plant supplies propylene to three of the company's acrylonitrile factories and
