On May 24, US Gulf spot methanol was valued
at the same price as it was on that day, due to stable market fundamentals. Sources said that the
global demand for methanol is low and that there's a surplus of methanol on the
market. On the day only offers were heard,
which dropped down to 83 cents/gal. No bids or transactions have been heard
since May 18th. Sources have stated that
trading on the spot market occurs most often when producers are experiencing
supply problems and need to meet their contractual obligations. Currently, no production problems have been reported in the
US. A source stated that "someone
will have to fall and trip to spark some interest in buying", Even this, however, may not be sufficient...
