No deal heard on Day / Around 120,000 mt heading to Europe

May 24, 2024

On May 23, the European spot methanol markets were quiet, with a stable demand but no deals. The price of T2 methanol FOB Rotterdam was Eur300.50/mt. This is down Eur0.25/mt from the previous day. The day saw no deals, and the previous day was the only day that two deals had been made. A total of 120,000 mt is headed to Europe. A market participant said that "nothing spectacular" was happening. Sources have said that demand remained stable. Some expect a slight increase or stability over the next few weeks. The focus remained on the upcoming Q3 European contract settlement negotiations. The demand for downstream MTBE remained low, despite summer driving season being near. This would indicate a pick-up in purchasing appetite while the market remained fully supplied.
