- No confirmation of deals for benzene- Styrene demand remains low

The European Benzene price was marginally
lower on May 15. The laycan for delivery in the next five to thirty days,
assessed at $943.50/mt CIF-ARA, is down $1.25/mt compared to May 12. A trader stated that "the global sentiment
towards benzene seems to be weaker." "Europe
is balanced, but a little long." Another
trader stated that the demand for benzene in Europe was low, particularly from
downstream sectors. A third trader stated that the demand for
styrene was still very weak. "Just spoke to customers earlier
and all volumes are at minimums for all contracts." One seller
stated that margins for styrene are not attractive considering the current
price indicators. The price of the five-to-30-days' forward
loading laycan styrene FOB ARA was $999.75/mt, down $7.75/mt since May 12.
