The Asian toluene price was higher on June
5 in accordance with the stronger crude futures prices, as well as upstream
naphtha and downstream paraxylene. Market
sources reported that a 2,000 mt end June loading cargo had been traded the
week before at a $25-30/mt premium over FOB Korea toluene prices to a buyer
from the Middle East on a LC-at-sight basis. I think that
there is a strong demand for toluene from the June stocks. A producer
in Korea said that there may not be a spot for toluene in Korea. The source
said that "definitely, [the]demand for July is not reduced compared to
June", adding that FOB Korea trading activity will pick up once Korean
players return on June 7 from Memorial Day...
