supply- Asia butadiene- naphtha spread over breakevenOn May 9, the Asian butadiene prices fell
by $10/mt per day, to a low of $960/mt for a period of four months. This was
due to weak downstream demand. Due
to the plant turnaround season in Northeast Asia, spot supplies are expected to
be more limited in May than in April. Market
sources stated that spot supplies from Southeast Asia would easily cover any
production shortfall. The Southeast
Asia-based spot butadiene supply was not enough to meet the end user demand. According to market sources, downstream synthetic rubber
operations in Asia are also below 100%. This could limit the appetite of
