NE Asia CFR at 3-month Low / Spot demand is bearish and offers are limited

On April 18, amid a lack of price discussion, Asian ethylene prices remained stable from day to day at $915/mt CFR northeast Asia, a low for three months. CFR Southeast Asia's ethylene price remains unchanged at $1,010/mt. The spot demand was low as the downstream plant operations were still weak due to negative margins. Asian polyethylene was $945/mt CIF China on April 18. The spread between PE & ethylene was calculated at $30/mt - much lower than the usual breakeven spreads of $150/mt. According to trade sources, Asia's steam-cracking operations will remain low because of an unfavorable differential between ethylene naphtha. Data showed that the CFR Japan naphtha fell by $17.50/mt per day, to $693.125/mt in April 18. The spread between naphtha and ethylene was calculated at 221.375/mt. This is...
