Narrow margins in downstream production hinder spot talks / Regional supply increment will remain limited

On the Asian butadiene markets, there were very few discussions about import cargoes on April 24. Most buyers cited a lack in urgency to buy due to a sufficient inventory near-term and lower derivative runs rates. The buying sentiment was negative, and some buyers claimed that the high butadiene prices were not sustainable on the long term due to the narrow margins of downstream production. The recent volatility on the Chinese rubber futures markets also contributed to the slowdown in talks. We do need to purchase some butadiene in June, but are not in a rush as we already have enough to last us until the end of May. A buyer from Northeast Asia said that the rubber futures market was weak and their plants were operating at 80-90% capacity....
