The European naphtha market weakened on May 7 with a smaller crack spread and a narrower backwardation for the day. Higher stocks readings in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub from last week had contributed to a slightly longer market in Northwest Europe, according to one source. In the Market on Close process, bidders continued to show a strong level of interest. Trafigura and Shell both bid on four cargoes at the MOC, but there were no indications of competitiveness that day. The MOPL from the previous day was used to assess the bids. Sea data reported that flows from the US into Europe resumed during the week beginning April 29, with 70,700 mt naphtha bound for NWE loading out of the US after four weeks without any flows.
