The crack spread was slightly narrower on the European naphtha markets of May 30. The naphtha price was lower on May 30 due to a slight decline in demand for blending and petrochemicals. The gasoline blending demand was weaker than anticipated despite the summer driving season. Due to lower demand than expected, the gasoline complex had a weaker performance with fewer arbitrage opportunities out of Europe. This, along with the narrowing gasoline/naphtha differential, decreased the pull of naphtha for blending. The difference between the two markets has been reduced to its lowest level since March due to a combination of a bullish market in Northwest European propane and softer demand for European naphtha.
