The mixed sentiment of the day was reflected in the European Naphtha Market on May 20. Backwardation remained volatile, but slightly less steep. Crack spreads were wider, and the East-West front-month ratio was narrower. Market on Close saw three trades on the day, as well as multiple offers and bids. According to an Europe-based broker, despite the expectation of strong blending demands due to the upcoming summer driving seasons, the current market demand for naphtha is "lower". The source did not deny that heavy naphtha was still more expensive than open specification naphtha. The East-West spread (the difference between the CFR Japan-NWE naphtha swap and its CIF equivalent) remained volatile.
